Our Elementary Red Devils were RED-y to kick off our Eat the Rainbow Challenge in the EJ Cafe this week!
Wednesday was our weekly "ETR Count Day" and students earned tickets for eating a serving of red fruits or vegetables from the hot lunch line (penne pasta with marinara sauce, cherry apple sauce, cherry cobbler, and fresh red apples) or the salad bar (two types of radish, peppers, tomatoes, and pickled red onions). Students who brought lunch from home earned tickets for their healthy choices as well!
Way to go, RED Devils! We’re on our way to Eating the Rainbow, color by color, over the next few weeks! And, along the way, fueling our bodies with plant phytonutrients that contribute to vibrant health and keep our students RED-y to learn!

Dear East Jordan Families and Students,
I couldn’t be more excited to share some incredible news—our very own Matt Hamilton will be honored at the NEA Foundation Gala this Friday, February 14th at 7:30 PM! Matt will be in Washington, D.C., to accept the Horace Mann Award for Teaching Excellence, a tremendous recognition of his dedication and impact on our students, school, and community.
During the event, a special video will highlight Matt’s passion, his work, and the amazing students of East Jordan Public Schools. We will also find out which of the five Horace Mann Award recipients will be named this year’s NEA Member Benefits Award for Teaching Excellence!
Regardless of the outcome, what an honor to be considered for this prestigious award! No matter what happens Friday night, Matt is already a winner in the hearts of all those he has forever changed right here in East Jordan. His hard work and passion have put East Jordan Public Schools on the map, and we couldn’t be prouder to have him represent our community on a national stage.
You won’t want to miss this special night—join us in celebrating by watching the livestream on YouTube:
