Transportation Supervisor/Mechanic

Skills and Abilities:

Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and professionally across various platforms, including verbal, written, and electronic communication. Capable of effectively coordinating time-sensitive transportation schedules and logistics related to daily operations, extracurricular activities, and special events. Skilled in facilitating collaboration and ensuring consistent communication among staff, families, and district leadership. Ability to prepare and present operational updates and reports to the Superintendent and Board of Education. Proven capacity to manage all aspects of transportation services, including fleet maintenance, department supervision, and personnel support. Job Responsiblities:

  • Direct and supervise all aspects of the district’s student transportation system, including services for general education, special education, and co-/extra-curricular activities.

  • Develop, manage, and monitor bus routes and schedules, including coverage for daily routes and athletic events, in coordination with building administrators and coaching staff.

  • Maintain a valid CDL with P and S endorsements, or demonstrate a willingness to obtain such licensing within 90 days of hire (or as determined by the Superintendent). Serve as a substitute driver when needed to ensure uninterrupted student transportation services.

  • Oversee the maintenance and repair of the district’s transportation fleet—including 6 route buses, 2 substitute buses, and district work trucks—working collaboratively with district personnel and the Career & Technical Education (CTE) department to coordinate service where appropriate.

  • Maintain accurate records of all vehicle maintenance, inspections, and repairs. Ensure compliance with all state and federal transportation regulations.

  • Prepare for and coordinate all requirements related to the annual Michigan State Police bus inspections.

  • Maintain working knowledge of vehicle systems and mechanical operations; must be capable of supporting and advising on repair work and safe shop equipment use.

  • Supervise and support all transportation department personnel, including the recruitment, training, evaluation, and retention of drivers and other staff. Ensure compliance with employment policies and collective bargaining agreements.

  • Develop and manage the annual transportation department budget, monitor expenditures, and report variances as necessary to the Superintendent or Business Office.

  • Attend required ISD or regional transportation supervisor meetings and maintain current knowledge of best practices and regulations affecting pupil transportation.

  • Coordinate snow removal services with contracted providers and provide on-site support as needed, including clearing bus steps and applying sand or salt to lots across district facilities.

  • Ensure that the transportation garage and facilities are kept clean, safe, and operational.

  • Uphold and enforce district policies and procedures while fostering a cooperative and respectful working environment among staff, students, parents, and community partners.

  • Collaborate with the district maintenance team to support general facility upkeep as needed, including assistance with seasonal tasks such as field lining and grounds preparation for athletic events during the fall and spring seasons.

Maintenance/Grounds Technician

Skills and Abilities:

Ability to perform all duties with awareness of district expectations, safety protocols, and Board of Education policies. Must demonstrate basic mechanical aptitude and the ability to use and maintain a variety of tools and equipment relevant to building and grounds maintenance. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, complete tasks independently, and maintain positive working relationships with staff, students, and community members. Must be able to prioritize tasks with the best interests of students in mind, responding effectively to the needs of each building and the administrators who lead them. Strong communication skills are essential, including the ability to coordinate with building principals and other district personnel to ensure that facilities are safe, functional, and supportive of student learning. This position requires the ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting heavy materials, operating maintenance equipment, climbing ladders, working in various weather conditions, and assisting with seasonal grounds work and facility repairs. Job Responsiblities:

  • Responsible for the general maintenance, security, and overall condition of all district buildings and grounds, including the pool facility.

  • Perform a wide range of maintenance services in a safe and efficient manner. In cases where tasks exceed internal capacity, consult with the Superintendent for approval to engage external vendors or contractors.

  • Maintenance responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

Job Responsiblities:

Bookkeeping & Accounting

  • Process disbursements and maintain records for all funds, including checks and electronic payments

  • Manage vendor files, purchase orders, and invoice tracking

  • Respond to internal inquiries regarding expenditures and prepare payment history reports

  • Maintain W-9 records and issue sales tax exemption certificates when needed

Administrative & Operational

  • Supervise daily custodial operations within the assigned building to ensure cleanliness, safety, and readiness of all areas for student and staff use.
