INTRODUCTION

East Jordan Public School believes in the philosophy that all children need learning opportunities that allow them to grow and succeed at their individual level. This philosophy encompasses all learners, children with outstanding academic abilities being no exception. These able learners need challenging programs that are designed to provide learning opportunities at their level of ability. These programs require content that is fast paced, in depth and incorporates high level thinking skills. They also provide the opportunity for independent projects that allow the children to use creativity and problem solving strategies.

The schools' Strategic Planning committee share this philosophy. The committee has, over the years, developed a plan with strategies that focus school resources on implementation of Alternative and Innovative Programs. With this philosophy in mind, the East Jordan Public Schools have developed many enrichment options for students in East Jordan. These specific enrichment programs have been developed to help ensure that highly able learners are encouraged and motivated to achieve their unique potential. These programs allow students the opportunity to work at a level which challenges and stimulates their creative thinking and problem solving skills. This section of our site will outline these programs and provide valuable resources for at-home use.

In 1997-1998, consistent with the goals of the Strategic Plan, the district established the Math, Science and Technology (MST) Center at the high school. The MST Center was, and is, northwest Michigan's ONLY center for advanced learning, offering a challenging, integrated curriculum to the high school's most able learners.

In 2001-2002, the Middle School expanded programming for high achieving students. At the same time, the Elementary School launched three separate enrichment programs targeted to meet the needs of high ability students in all core content areas.
