East Jordan
Middle School earned an "A" on the Michigan Department of
Education 2010-20011 school report card.
EJMS is currently in its third year of a grant it received from the State of Michigan Department of Education. The MiBLSi (Michigan Integrated Behavior and Learning Support Initiative) project is designed to help schools develop schoolwide support systems in reading and behavior.
Parent involvement continues to be a strenght at EJMS as measured by parent-teacher conference participation, attendance at open houses, and participation in a variety of school activities.
East Jordan
Middle School offers a variety of programs designed to challenge
the school's most able learners, which includes placement in
academic classes at their level (such as math) verses at their
grade level.
EJMS has established “Child Study” process, which uses a
“Response to Intervention” approach to specifically respond to
individual student needs.
The Middle
School newsletter, “In the Middle,” keeps parents
informed about Middle School activities and initiatives. And presents a
“Counselor’s Corner”, designed to offer advice to the
parents with children in early adolescence.
East Jordan Middle
School continues to distinguish itself by hosting experts in the area of reading. In 2010-2011, the entire staff worked with experts in the field to develop strategies for teaching reading.
EJMS has an active "Shoe Club", which is an extracurricular group that works on developing and leading school-wide initiatives such as student activities and service projects.
A seventh chapter of the National Junior Honor Society was inducted in 2010-2011. The Society, which promotes leadership and service among students, kept students active in community service projects throughout the year.
The school
boasts a rich elective program that enables students to
participate in several levels of band, art, physical
education and technology.
The curriculum
at EJMS is aligned with the Grade Level Content Expectiations (GLCE's) and locally-developed major assessments measure student proficiency in each of the core areas.
Students,
according to their academic performance, participate in Midwest
Talent Search, which enables them to take the ACT/SAT tests
during their middle school years, while preparing them for the rigors of high school.
