East Jordan Elementary School offers a wide
range of programs and opportunities that make the school a great
place to learn, and a center of activity for young families.
§
Standard and Poors recognized East Jordan Elementary
School for significantly narrowing the achievement gap between
diverse groups of students.
§
The Elementary School offers a comprehensive early
childhood program that includes three (3) preschool options, an
early 5’s program and 5-day, full-day kindergarten.
§
East Jordan Elementary School offers the area’s
only pull-out program for gifted & talented students. The EXSL
Program offers academic extensions in reading, writing and
mathematics!
§
Special programs abound at EJES. For example,
Jonathon Rand (Michigan Chillers) visited the school last year, as
did a group of musicians from the Traverse City Symphony Orchestra.
§
March is a celebration of reading at the Elementary
School. In 2007, EJES students read 23,506 books during the month!
Faculty, staff and parents are engaged too, with lots of activities
organized during and after the school day.
§
95% of EJES students are represented by their parents
during Parent-Teacher Conferences.
§
The Kids’ Club Program offers before and after school
daycare as a service to our families, and also offers a daytime
program.
§
Special grants fund the school’s Youth Choir and
Strings programs. More than 75 students participated in these
programs in 2006-2007! The Learn to Ski Program also flourishes in
our beautiful winter area, with more than 100 participants!
§
East Jordan Elementary School offers comprehensive art
and music instructional programs for all students, while also
offering a full physical education program.
§
The Elementary School employs a reading specialist,
who coordinates the school’s reading instructional efforts.
§
Data matters at EJES. State and local assessments are
utilized to monitor the academic achievement of individual
students. Teachers use the data to direct their instructional
efforts.
§
The East Jordan Learning Alliance is a big supporter
of the Elementary School. Parents and teachers combine to provide
many opportunities for our students and our school!
§
EJES students benefit from two (2) fully-networked,
multi-media computer labs, and also have access to computers in each
of their classrooms. Integrated learning system software helps to
reinforce the instruction of the basic skills too!
