East
Jordan Public Schools is proud of its many academic achievements.
Our staff demonstrates the belief that all students can learn and be
successful. Academic excellence is the result of high expectations
and a diverse array of motivating instructional activities to meet
the needs of individual students.
-
All East Jordan Schools are accredited at the North Central
Association (NCA) Commission on Accreditation’s highest level,
earning the association’s “Transition Endorsement.” The Transition
Endorsement is awarded to schools that work to ensure successful
transitions for every student from home to school, grade to grade,
and high school to college or the workforce. The district’s work
with NCA accreditation supports the new Education YES! And No
Child Left Behind state and federal initiatives.
-
East Jordan Elementary School provides a
Reading Specialist who supported teachers as they work to improve student
achievement in reading.
-
Increasing student performance levels
requires that instruction, curriculum and assessment opportunities
are aligned with meaningful learning standards. East Jordan
Schools continue to make this alignment a priority in
district-wide professional development that connects directly to
the Grade Level Content Expectations for the State of
Michigan.
-
All schools continue their efforts to
create locally-developed assessments for all subjects that can be
analyzed throughout the year to immediately identify areas of
strength and weaknesses in individual student learning.
-
East Jordan Elementary School utilizes
the Michigan Literacy Progress Profile (MLPP) to assess oral
fluency, reading comprehension and writing skills in grades 1-3.
Fourth and Fifth grade students are assessed using Developmental
Reading Assessment (DRA) to determine accuracy rates, oral reading
rates and comprehension levels.
-
In
2005-2006, the School District embarked on a performance
measurement project, which will measure student academic
achievement against a defined set of expectations, as well as
against a cadre of peer school districts.
Increased achievement for all students
is at the core of our school's mission.
